Why should Steph Curry be in the GOAT discussion?

Curry is still an active force on the court at the age of 35, and his impact on the game is unmistakable. While Curry may not be the first name that comes to mind when discussing the GOAT, there are strong reasons why he should be considered. He not only leads the lifetime 3-pointers chart, but he also has four of the top five single-season 3-pointers in the NBA. To top it off, he is the first player in NBA history to make more than 400 three-pointers in a single season. His accuracy from beyond the arc has not only broken records but has also changed the game. Curry’s numbers speak for themselves when it comes to scoring. His career scoring average of 24.6 points per game surpasses that of Magic Johnson, another basketball icon.

Curry has now eclipsed Johnson in overall career points, with 21,712 to 17,707. He has also won scoring crowns, averaging more than 30 points per game in 2015-16 and 2020-21. The 4x champion has accomplished an unprecedented milestone in the 2015-16 season when he earned the MVP award unanimously, becoming the first player to do so. During that historic season, he led the Golden State Warriors to 73 regular-season victories, a record that still holds today. This is an accomplishment that even Jordan and James have not achieved. Curry may not be the most vocal participant in the debate, but his influence on the game and how it is played indicates to his excellence. It’s finally time to recognize his place in the GOAT debate and respect the distinct legacy he’s establishing in the world of basketball.
