Austin Reaves emerged as the Breakout star for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. After the Lakers decided to part ways with former MVP Russell Westbrook, Reaves took the responsibility to facilitate the offense for LeBron James and Co. He took his game to the next level during the playoffs and delivered when his number was called. The 25-year-old finished his sophomore season averaging 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in the playoffs. Rob Pelinka saw great potential in the guard and re-signed him on a 4-year $54,000,000 contract.
In July, rumors were flying in the NBA world about a potential offer from the San Antonio Spurs to pair Reaves up with French sensation Victor Wembanyama. But the Spurs never made any offer. Austin Reaves revealed if he was bitter about the San Antonio Spurs not making him an offer that could have paired him up with the next face of the NBA.

Austin Reaves was a guest on the latest episode of The Lowe Post Podcast hosted by Zach Lowe. The veteran analyst asked the Lakers guard if he thought about his fit in San Antonio when rumors about a potential offer started spreading. ?You think about it a little bit, but at the end of the day I wanted to be in LA.? Austin said, revealing the Lakers had promised to match whatever offer any team made to the 25-year-old. In only his 2nd NBA season, Reaves showed that he is not afraid of the big moment and is the perfect young star to play alongside LeBron James.
Lowe further asked if Reaves was bitter about Spurs not making him any offer. Happy with his contract extension with the Lakers, Reaves replied, ?It?s hard to be mad at making $54,000,000.? Austin went undrafted in the 2021 draft and was signed by the Lakers later. So, he never imagined making such money playing the sport he loves.
