Nikola Jokic is in a tough spot with the referees. Though not an isolated incident or issue, ‘The Joker’ was the latest victim of a ridiculous call. The Denver Nuggets faced the Chicago Bulls in yesterday’s matchup. Though victory was on the Nuggets’ side, they had to watch their best player tossed out in the second quarter.

His comments on the whole incident have caught the attention of Tari Eason’s mother, Teroya Eason. Known as the ‘Momster’ on X (formerly Twitter), she is famous for her attention-grabbing one-liners.

The Serbian big man is a unique cut among the usual NBA players. His skills on the court are just as unique as he is. As such, he has garnered worldwide attention, but none more so than his Serbian fans. And seeing that Chicago boasts a large community of Serbs, Jokic says, “I’m just happy that we didn’t play in Serbia … It’s could’ve been really fun to see how it would be handled.” That was all the motivation Mama Eason needed.

The 22-year-old forward’s mom reposted the video with her final decision. “Tega and I are going to Europe,” she said. This season, the refs, players, and coaches have been engaging in a lot of back-and-forth. And the players nor the coaches can be blamed for doing so. These officials call a foul for the most absurd of reasons. A player could be celebrating an incredible shot or engaged in a stare-down with an opposing player. These spur-of-the-moment actions are what make a sport all the more engaging and memorable. As far as the NBA refs are concerned, they warrant a call.

There’s no wonder that Teroya Eason finds watching a basketball game in Europe would be worth the trip. Especially when Nikola ‘The Joker’ Jokic has guaranteed an entertaining outcome of such a controversial call in Serbia.

The latest in the referee saga that has become a trending topic in the NBA is surrounding Jokic. Nikola’s ejection in the Nuggets-Bulls game had even the opposing team’s announcers call out the ref’s unfair decision. Arguing with the ref for a missed foul call, the officiating ref decided he had enough.

He promptly kicked Jokic out, leaving everyone shell-shocked for a moment or two. And then this resulted in shouts of boos and curses at the ref for the decision. The Bulls’ announcers couldn’t help but sympathize with Jokic’s predicament. Confronting the referees with the harsh truth that they were depriving the world of watching some of the best players in action, they dubbed the ref’s move as “excessive”.

But like Jokic said, “It is what it is.” There’s only so much screaming, insults, and discussions one can hold on the unfairness of it all. If Commissioner Silver doesn’t want the loyal NBA fans to direct their line of thinking to that of Tari Eason’s mom, he might have to act fast.
