The Phoenix Suns were poised to take down the New York Knicks for the second time this season. However, Jalen Brunson had different plans. The 6’2 Knicks star erupted for a record-breaking 50 points, leading the Knicks to a 139-122 upset victory. His historic night also included six rebounds, nine assists, and five steals. After Friday’s performance, he became the only player in league history to score 50 points while shooting 100% on nine attempts from beyond the arc. Moreover, he is also the first player ever to score 30+ points in a half on a staggering 100% shooting.

If, after watching his form on Friday, you think of Jalen Brunson as a Hall of Fame-worthy player; you are not the only one. Kevin Durant, duly impressed by the Knicks point guard after his remarkable career night, bestowed upon him the highest esteem.

The Valley of Suns were leading 68-63 in the first half, but the Knicks turned the needles with a 42-point fourth quarter. Despite KD’s 29 points and Devin Booker’s 28 points, the Suns fell short of a victory. All thanks to Brunson’s 50-point explosion. After the game, Kevin Durant heaped praise on the Knicks star. “Great scorer. Got the confidence. That’s his franchise,” gushed Durant. He further added, “Hall of Fame player by the end of his career, the way he’s playing.”

Apart from Brunson, Julius Randle and RJ Barrett combined for an efficient 43 points. As a result of their joint efforts, the Knicks have now climbed to the fifth spot in the East. The 27-year-old’s performance tonight made a strong case for an All-Star appearance this season. If he takes the leap this year, the Knicks would have another All-Star, alongside Julius Randle in the tow.

As for the Suns, a defeat on Friday night wasn’t the end of their problems.

The Suns ‘Big Three’ on hold once again

Bradley Beal had missed most of the season due to his lingering back issues. However, the injury bug doesn’t seem to leave him alone, since he sustained yet another injury as soon as he returned to court. During Friday’s matchup against the Knicks, Beal sprained his ankle while attempting a three-pointer in the first quarter (7:29).

Although he made the basket, he landed awkwardly on Donte DiVincenzo’s foot, severely twisting his ankle. Suns coach Frank Vogel announced that the X-rays were negative and that there is no set time for his return.

This was yet another setback for the Suns, who are currently in the 10th position in the West. This was just his sixth game this season and his second with Durant and Booker. The injury has once again put the Suns’ Big 3 on hold.
