The Boston Celtics were thrashed at home by the visiting Clippers tonight. Finishing the game with a dismal 96 points against LA’s 115, this is easily the worst performance by Boston. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics scorers with 21 points and 11 rebounds, notching a double-double in the process. Except for Payton Pritchard (12) and Luke Kornet (11), no one else had a double-digit figure to contribute. That’s including Jrue Holiday.
Talking to the media after the game, Holiday summed up their matchup perfectly. “Good old-fashioned a** whooping… They did everything better: rebounding, transitions… It’s definitely humbling to be able to come home and get your bu** kicked.”
However, he added that it is a long season, and the team would learn from this.

This marks Boston’s second home loss and a stop to their three-game winning streak. The Clippers, for their part, were on the second night of a back-to-back and looking none the worse for the wear. They had a halftime lead of 16 points and used the momentum to finish the third quarter with 36 points.
But the Celtics shot just 35% from the field and 25% from the three-point range. Not to mention, the Clippers dominated the paint 64-48. Another advantage the Big 4 had was the absence of big man Kristaps Porzingis. Kawhi Leonard led LA’s scoring with 26 points while Daniel Theis and Paul George followed with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Terence Mann (14) and Amir Coffey (10) also had double-digit scores to contribute. James Harden (9-7-8) and Russell Westbrook (4-5-4) had a somewhat neutral night. But that’s when LA’s Big 4 magic comes into play. Yet, this slight mishap doesn’t seem to faze Holiday in the slightest as he admitted his wish to remain in Boston.

It seems like Boston has done a number on Jrue Holiday. In an exclusive interview with MassLive, the 2x All-Star revealed that he’d like to continue with the organization. “I feel like I’m getting more and more comfortable, loving the guys, loving the organization and loving the city,” he admitted. Of course, there are a few technicalities that might get in the way of Holiday and the Celtics.
The 2021 champion has a player option for the 2024-25 season and if he declines that, Jrue will become an unrestricted free agent come summer. However, as per the NBA rules, both parties cannot agree to an extension until after six months have passed. And that would roughly put them in April.
But then again, the Celtics are already neck-deep with their star-studded financially heavy roster. So, it all comes down to Holiday. If they can arrive at a mutually beneficial agreement, the Celtics might even find themselves getting the better end of the deal.
