Things haven’t gone according to the script for the Golden State Warriors. Before the start of the 2023-24 season, the Dub Nation expected them to challenge for the NBA title. However, with the season reaching its halfway mark, the Warriors languish outside the play-in spots of the Western Conference. It has become glaringly evident that the current Warriors’ roster is in need of an overhaul.

However, after missing out on Pascal Siakam, the Warriors have switched their focus on to former Laker, Kyle Kuzma. But, the GSW will encounter strong competition, with teams like the Memphis Grizzlies and the San Antonio Spurs also expressing interest in Kuzma, according to HoopsHype’s Sam Amico.

The former 2020 title winner with the Lakers has averaged 22.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 40 games this season for the Washington Wizards. The Wizards would seek a significant trade package if they were to consider parting ways with their most valuable asset. As per reports from Michael Scotto, “Following reports that Washington wants two first-round picks to potentially part with Kuzma, there is further clarity and caveats to that. The Wizards would need future first-round picks beyond the 2024 draft with the potential to become lottery picks to consider parting with their best player, league sources told HoopsHype.”

While Kuzma has excelled as the primary scorer for the Wizards, the asking price set by the Wizards might deter many potential suitors for Kuzma. Although the Warriors are in dire need of new additions, would trading for Kuzma be the right move given his steep asking price?

Should the Warriors trade for Kyle Kuzma?

Kyle Kuzma has proved that he can be a valuable role player on a title-winning team, as evidenced by his 2020 NBA title win with the Lakers. However, since then, Kuzma has become the primary scorer and playmaker of the Wizards. If the Warriors were to trade for him, Kuzma would need to adjust to a significantly reduced role with the ball.

Furthermore, Kuzma brings much-needed size and rebounding to the Warriors, addressing a current weakness in the team. However, the positives end there. Trading for Kuzma still won’t address the Dubs’ most pressing issue, which is their abysmal defense. In fact, Kuzma has the second worst plus/minus this season, at -328. Kuzma’s poor defense, coupled with his inefficient scoring, would fail to make any meaningful impact on the Warriors’ fortunes this season.
