Draymond Green Expected to Get Harsher Punishment Than Earlier Suspension, Insider Says

Draymond Green‘s done it again; he lost his cool again and got his third ejection this season on Tuesday night during the 119-116 losing game against the Suns. Just a few minutes into the third quarter, and the Warriors were leading by five points. Draymond was grappling with the Suns’ center Jusuf Nurkić for position and swung his hand on Jusuf’s face, immediately knocking him down to the floor.

DrayMagic received a flagrant 2 foul and was ejected from the game. This is less than a month after he was ejected and then served a five-game suspension for putting the Wolves‘ Rudy Gobert in a headlock on the 14th of November. Being a repeated offender, the consequences might weigh heavier this time for Draymond.

Draymond Green could face severe repercussions

Draymond was already treading on very thin ice thanks to his past transgressions. The last time he got into trouble, he was suspended for five straight games. This time, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst says, “His suspension is magnified because of his past behaviors. So his suspension for this will be magnified.” Brian adds that if this single incident was taken by itself, meaning if Draymond had a clean record, then it would call for a one-game suspension. That’s not the case here.

At best, it could’ve been missing out on two games. But it’s Draymond. Moreover, Brian adds that the last time Draymond was suspended, Joe Dumars, the Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations in the NBA specifically made it clear that he did it because of Draymond’s history with violence on the court. When we take all of that into account, the outcome this time doesn’t look too good for D.

Draymond admits he “did not intend to hit him”

During the post-game interview, Draymond stood his ground that it was not his intention to hit Jusuf. He told reporters that Jusuf was pulling at his hip, and he swung away to close the call, making “contact with him” in the process. Draymond did apologize publicly to Jusuf. However, this still does not make it any better for him and the Warriors.
