This off-season, the NBA world has gone crazy with some of the gargantuan-sized contracts that the franchises have dished out. Yet, only a few stood out like this one. Giannis Antetokounmpo?s latest contract with the Bucks showcases his commitment to Milwaukee. But are all superstars as committed as the Greek Freak that they command a Supermax extension if eligible?

It all began with the Boston Celtics and Jaylen Brown, then it was the Lakers? turn with Anthony Davis. Now it was the two-time MVP?s turn to secure his bag.

In July this year, Jaylen Brown signed the richest deal in NBA history. He signed a five-year $304 million contract with the Boston Celtics. It trumped the champion, Nikola Jokic?s contract with the Denver Nuggets. In 2022, Jokic signed a $264 million 5-year extension with the Nuggets.

Brown, with his second-team All-NBA honors for the 2022-23 season, qualified for the Supermax extension. However, his new deal will only kick in from the 2024-25 season. It would begin with $52.3 million payout, and in his final year, he would earn $69.1 million. Jaylen?s teammate, Jayson Tatum, is also eligible for a Supermax extension next season.

In August, the Lakers offered a contract to Anthony Davis, which became the biggest contract extension at $186 million. This was a 3-year deal, unlike Jaylen Brown?s 5-year agreement. Though many were going gaga regarding this contract that would pay over $62 million annually, there was some pushback too because of AD being injury-prone.

If 2 big market teams were paying it big to its stars, a small market team like Milwaukee also stepped in just before the beginning of the regular season. It rewarded its champion, Giannis Antetokounmpo, with a $186 million 3-year extension which was in the same bracket as AD.

The Denver Nuggets have been very silent in the off-season. Though they have been under the radar, it would be foolish to count them out.
