After firing HC Adrian Griffin, the Milwaukee Bucks wasted no time in replacing him. It was obvious who their target was and very soon, Doc Rivers joined as the team’s new HC. The former Champion coach was fired last year in May by the Sixers after an unsuccessful Conference Semifinals run. He was sought after by several other teams before he landed in Milwaukee.

Choosing the Bucks over heaps of offers was not a difficult decision to make for Doc Rivers, who had already made up his mind. In a recent interview, he reveals the reasons for picking the Bucks and the revelation is not surprising.

Giannis and Dame were the only reasons

The Athletic‘s Eric Nehm reports that the reason Doc Rivers chose the Bucks over the other offers was because of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. He believed that with the two superstars; the team was a serious title contender and wanted to guide that greatness toward the big prize. The coach reportedly shared, “You know the answer, Giannis. Dame….The Bucks are one of (the teams that have a chance to win a championship). They’re grownups.”

The Bucks are on top of the Central Division with a 31-14 record and are second in leading the Eastern Conference. Doc Rivers is a seasoned HC with 24 years of coaching experience under his sleeve and a championship with the Celtics in 2008. It will take some time to see if the Bucks can make any magic with Coach Rivers’ experience and the “Freak Time” duo. But the million-dollar question remains: When will Coach Rivers make his debut?

Coach Rivers will make his debut against the Nuggets

It won’t be long before Coach Rivers is seen by the Bucks’ courtside. As per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, he will make his debut on Monday when the Nuggets will host the Bucks at the Ball Arena. Some may think that it will take some time for Coach Rivers to accustom himself to the nuances of the new team. But what many don’t know is that he already has an idea of what has been going on in the Bucks’ locker room.

Before Adrian was let go, Rivers was serving as his unofficial consultant. Ironically, Adrian was fired only to be replaced by his ‘consultant.’ Nonetheless, this will give an edge to Rivers as we can already assume he is familiar with the team.
