Kawhi Leonard has always been one of the most intense players on the basketball court. His intensity has made him one of the premier two-way players in the league over the years. However, this may have also led to him missing out a dap from his teammate, Norman Powell.

Powell was Leonard’s teammate during the Raptors’ unbelievable championship run. He also followed Leonard to the Clippers after a short lived stint with the Portland Trail Blazers. In a recent interview, the long time teammate of Leonard shared a story about how he left him hanging for a dap before taking the court together during their time in Toronto.

Responding to a video of this incident, Powell said “He was locked in because if you see like, he’s looking forward”. He then went on to explain his routine at the time and how the Fun Guy missed out on his dap.

“My routine when I come out after getting ready is I go around….I give everybody dap. I’m saying what’s up to everybody, I have my fist out but he’s not looking at me….I’m like messing with him, like ah cool, thanks” he said, talking about what took place in the video. He further added “After when we were talking about it, he’s like bro honestly I thought you were trying to bring the huddle in….but I was just trying to give him dap…I start joking with him right there like oh okay cool, you’re gonna leave me hangin’ like straight”

Powell shared a hilarious moment with Leonard but their championship run would always be a highlight in his memory. The historic achievement would not have been possible without the 5 time All Star.

Reliving Leonard and the Raptors’ historic run

Kawhi Leonard played 7 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs before being traded to the Raptors in 2019. The Raptors made the ultimate sacrifice, trading their franchise player in DeMar DeRozan for the former Defensive Player of the Year. Little did they know this move would instantly elevate them to championship contention.

Leonard had a season for the ages in 2019. After having an impressive regular season that saw him finish 9th in the MVP race, The Klaw went off in the playoffs.
