The Los Angeles Clippers finally got their wildcard, James Harden, out on the court to face off against the Knicks. Good news for the Knicks, because Randle finally got back on his feet. With the kind of game they played since the season started, this win and the game was a much-needed respite. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of Ty Lue’s Clippers. The Clippers lost to the Knicks by a 97-111 score.

Suffice it to say, no one was happy with the game. This was Harden’s first game since the regular season started and his first with the Clippers team. Understandably, not everyone will be in tune with Harden on the court. And yet, this kind of loss was too much.

The Clippers’ loss has led many to question Coach Lue’s skills

Notable for not keeping their opinions to themselves or sugarcoating the truth, Gil’s Arenas podcast always gives it straight. This time, too, they did not hold back. In their defense, the loss of the Clippers in such a shabby way is a tough pill to swallow. For anyone. So much so that Gil just had to ask, “The f**k y’all are teaching?”

In all fairness, Harden showcased a decent performance. Especially when you take into account that he has been off the court for around six months. The Beard played a total of 31 minutes and scored 17 points, six assists, and three rebounds. It is going to take some time for everyone to get into a rhythm of sorts.

Given the Clippers’ star power, Ty Lue will have a heavy decision to make when it comes to giving each of the players their positions. But the first performance with Harden in tow didn’t bode well for the 46-year-old coach. Even though Harden’s debut with his “dream team” did not get off to a terrific start, fans, analysts, and veterans are all in support of the MVP.

“I was … just basically winging it,”: James Harden on his debut

For someone just “winging it”, Harden did put up a neat performance. Known for making life easier for the big men of his team, Zubac is going to love having Harden on his side. The Knicks game saw James Harden run a pick-and-roll with the Clippers center in the third quarter. His bounce pass through Robinson’s legs also provided two free throws for Zubac.

Talking about his first time on the court since the whole Sixers drama, Harden said, “It felt kind of weird out there, … not really having a preseason game …  I was just out there just basically winging it.” The ‘weird’ part is understandable. After all, in basketball terms, six months is enough to make one rusty.

Add to it the fact that you are on a new team, with new players, all of whom have had years or at least a few games’ experience playing with each other and finding a rhythm. Yes, Harden will find himself to be the oddball. But that does not diminish the fact that his performance, taking the lead on the offense, finding openings for his teammates, and more will make the Clippers a better team soon.

All they need to do is find that rhythm. Hopefully, we can see a well-oiled machine after playing a few games.
