“Fighting Through Adversary”: Klay Thompson Makes Emotional Confession As Bob Marley’s Truths Come to Light in One Love

Music can inspire us, influence us, and even enlighten us. This is the profound effect that the late Bob Marley’s music has on Klay Thompson. Unfortunately, Marley passed away from melanoma when he was just 36 years old in 1981 – even before Thompson was born. Therefore, he never got to thank the reggae legend in person. But with Marley’s biopic One Love set to hit theaters today, Klay seized this moment to pay tribute to the Jamaican star, who left an indelible mark on his life.

In a heartfelt revelation, Klay expressed how Marley’s music encouraged him to value the love of family members and teammates and even taught him how to persevere during challenging times. “Bob’s music and his influence have been a huge component of my career. His music has inspired me to cherish the love from my family, teammates and fighting through any adversary that comes my way,” Klay said in an Instagram post.

He went on to share a memorable line from Bob Marley’s repertoire that has deeply resonated with him, noting, “He sings where there’s a will there’s always a way. That stuck with me forever. I would love to thank him for that.” The GSW star also shared a picture of him wearing a graphic Bob Marley t-shirt with his music playing in the background.

With the 34-year-old having one of the worst seasons of his career, Marley’s biopic, which details how he recorded his famous album Exodus during a tumultuous time in his native Caribbean Island nation, might just be the inspiration he needs to keep his head above water.

Klay Thompson is open to embracing a reduced role

Thompson is just a shell of the player he was before suffering back-to-back season-ending surgeries (ACL and Achilles) on their trip to the NBA Finals in 2019. Injuries, coupled with his age, have contributed to the steady decline in his production. This has also threatened his spot on the roster. While he survived the trade deadline, the Warriors front office and Thompson are yet to reach an agreement on a potential contract extension.

Adding to his woes, the Warriors have the biggest payroll in the league, which would prevent them from offering him a max deal. However, the two-time All-NBA player recently told Logan Murdock of the Ringer that he is open to a reduced role if it means staying with the franchise that drafted him.

While his numbers are not significantly terrible, he is just not an offensive threat anymore. Klay is averaging 17.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists this season. However, his recent performance against the Jazz did hold promise. He registered 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists as the Warriors humbled the Jazz in a conclusive 129-107 win.
