Over the last five seasons, Trae Young has become one of the best point guards in the league. He was instrumental in Atlanta’s playoff run in 2021. Where they lost in the conference finals against the eventual champions, the Milwaukee Bucks. But after making the conference finals, the Hawks have faded out of contention. And fingers are being pointed at Trae Young for not leading the Hawks into the playoffs.

With the new NBA season right around the corner, Trae Young looks to silence his doubters. He also spoke about learning from Kevin Durant and Devin Booker during the offseason.

The Atlanta Hawks had a pretty mediocre season. They finished eighth in the Eastern Conference and lost in the first round to the Boston Celtics. Trae Young has been working hard during the offseason, as he looks to improve his and Atlanta’s chances of going deep in the postseason. Trae has been seen working out with the likes of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Michael Porter Jr. during the offseason. The summer runs are highly competitive, with many NBA players participating in them. In a viral moment during the summer, Drake pulled up to a close practice session.

Trae opened up about the summer training on his “From the Point” podcast. He said, “It was some really good runs. I mean, it’s always good to get into runs with guys like KD and Book. It’s just fun to watch them. You get to learn as you play against them”. He added further, “You know that you’re going to see them throughout the season too. So it’s cool to get a feel for how they work? And how they guard you? You get to steal some of their moves too”.

Hawks in a Tough Spot

The Atlanta Hawks are in a tough spot, as they are too good to tank. On the other hand, they don’t have the required tools to challenge for the title. The Hawks need to choose a direction they want to pursue because nothing good can come from staying mediocre. They have one of the best point guards in the league – Trae Young, and they need to build around him. He won’t stick around with the Hawks if they don’t contend for the title.

The Hawks have a decent roster with talented players like Dejounte Murray, Clint Capela, and Bogdan Bogdanovic. But they are nowhere near the caliber of top teams such as the Bucks and the Celtics. The front office needs to pull off a blockbuster trade for a superstar in order to compete for the NBA title. Trae Young alone can’t win a title, he needs help. But the question remains: Will he get help?
