When the Dubs met the San Antonio Spurs for their rematch, everyone believed it to be another loss. After all, Stephen Curry was not present because of his ankle injury. Klay Thompson was added to the starters, but he cannot pull the team over the edge alone. Yet, contrary to expectations, the Golden State Warriors worked together to gain the upper hand of a rebuilding team. But what made the headlines was Trayce-Jackson Davis, leaving the world stunned as he posterized Victor Wembanyama to dunk.

The viral dunk happened in the fourth quarter of the game and quickly caught fire. San Francisco won the game 112-102. But ex-Warriors star and Gil’s Arena host, Gilbert Arenas, wouldn’t call it a dunk. At best, it’s a “tough layup” or a “Kareem hook”. His co-host, Kenyon Martin, disagreed with the fact that it was a hook shot. As far as they are concerned, it apparently is a “layup”. Jackson-Davis for his part, was simply happy that the team got the win. He finished the night with 13 points, five assists, and 10 rebounds, landing his fifth double-double of the season in the process.

Trayce Jackson-Davis has been one of the rookies who has been making quite the strides in his performance. Of course, many factors have contributed to bench units and rookies getting more floor time, but the fact that rose to the occasion says a lot about them. As the veterans and coach of the Warriors have said, the future of the franchise is in pretty solid hands.

But going back to Davis, the Indiana product is averaging 11.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and blocks while playing 21.7 minutes in the last five games. In the 51 games that he’s played this season, Jackson-Davis has started in four. Although the Warriors selected him as the 57th pick in Round 2, the 24-year-old seems to be quite the steal for the team.

Trayce Jackson-Davis & Wembanyama have a neutral stand

While the dunk was all the rage on social media, the two players involved in the actual act seemed to have a neutral and somewhat diplomatic stand on the whole situation. Wembanyama isn’t fazed by being posterized because, according to him, dunking and being dunked are just a part of the game. ” I dunk on a lot of people and a lot of people dunk on me too. But I think I block more often than I get dunked on, so that’s positive.”

That he does! Wemby does lead the league in blocks per game at 3.4. Surprisingly, Jackson-Davis also had a similar standing. Of course, he was more than happy he got and took the chance of dunking on the 7’4 (and still growing) Frenchman. But at the end of the day, some get dunked on, some dunk on you. That’s part of basketball.
