Maurice, a former NFL star, recently appeared on the “Come Talk 2 Me” podcast alongside Cam’ron, to discuss the dynamics of leadership within the Golden State Warriors franchise. Both of them couldn’t help but talk about the bond that Curry and Green share, impacting the Golden State Warriors’ legacy and the entire team. Of course, their discussion led to also talking about Green’s unique style of playing and his personality, which eventually impacts Curry’s leadership.

Draymond Green’s and his duality 

Maurice spoke about Green as a double-edged sword. Draymond is a fierce competitor, and he handles difficult situations. This “tough guy” mentality, according to Maurice, gives him an upper hand. However, there are instances when Draymond’s aggression becomes excessive. Draymond’s antics have created a reputation that forces him to rely on his aggressive personality. Maurice believes that Steph Curry and Klay Thompson appreciate having Draymond around because “he makes life easier on them.” Maurice clarifies that Steph’s leadership isn’t lacking. Curry might struggle with navigating a situation where he needs to confront Draymond.

Cam’ron supported Maurice’s remarks. He referred to Green as a “goon” for the Golden State Warriors. Goon is normally used to describe an enforcer or protector within a team. He acknowledged Green’s role in providing a sense of security for Curry and his fellow teammates, especially during high-pressure situations. Cam’ron avoided criticizing Steph Curry’s leadership directly. Instead, he supported Maurice’s sentiment that Draymond’s “streetwise” demeanor creates a complex situation for Curry. Draymond’s approach is necessary, but sometimes a more cautious approach is needed.

Draymond effect on the Golden State Warriors

Draymond Green has been one of the main contributors to the Golden State Warriors for many years. His performance has many times affected Steph Curry. Draymond creates space on the floor, which helps Steph to attack the paint. And it gives a chance to Steph to operate freely. During the 2021-22 season, when Curry shared the court with Green, his field goal percentage increased from 45.8% to 48.2%. Remarkably, during that season, Green averaged 1.7 steals per game which showed an increase in Curry’s FG% it increased from 40.2% to 48.2%.

Other notable contributions can be observed during the 2020-21 season. Draymond Green averaged 8.9 assists per game, which helped Curry. That season Curry averaged 32.0 points per game, which is his overall career best. This signifies the bond and understanding that both of them share on the court. Draymond’s unavailability from the Playoffs in the 2022-23 season due to technical fouls affected Curry and the Warriors. His absence weakened the Warriors’ defense, and it forced Curry to focus on the defensive end more, which affected his offensive output.

Draymond is surely an important asset for the Warriors when he is focused and disciplined.
