There are several NBA lists that float around regularly. While there is rarely any list that carries a great deal of validity, most lists comprise pulling names out of thin air. They range from top players overall to position specifics. Recently, one such list was put out by ESPN, which did not sit well with Patrick Beverley.

The primary reason behind Beverley’s annoyance was Russell Westbrook disrespect. Calling out the media house for putting a “sh*t” list, the 35-year-old said it’s laughable at best because they do not have any reasoning for placing players on certain ranks.

The 34-year-old has been in the league since 2008. In that time, Westbrook has made it to the NBA All-Star 9 times and has been crowned the All-Star MVP twice. He was also included in the NBA 75th anniversary team and won the 2017 league MVP awards. Currently, he plays for the Los Angeles Clippers.

However, he was placed far behind on ESPN’s list of top 100 NBA players in 2023. Westbrook’s is placed at the 94th rank on this list. However, there are a few more surprises on this list. One of which gave Pat Bev a hard time digesting it.

Recently the Philadelphia 76ers PG was asked for his opinion on the latest list. When informed about Westbrook’s position, Beverley replied, “It’s a joke”. “He averaged a triple-double, twice. Most triple-doubles coming off the bench,” he continued. Additionally, he was even more surprised about Scoot Henderson’s position on this “awful” list. Henderson is placed at 78, significantly higher than Westbrook.

Confused by this assessment, Beverley said “He hasn’t played one game”.

The 76ers star clarified he is not trying to disrespect Henderson, but he still has a long way to go in order to be ranked above Westbrook. “They gotta stop with that sh*t”, Beverley added.

Patrick Beverley breaks down the origin and impact of such lists

Beverley was clearly unhappy with the position assigned to some athletes on this list. He said that casual basketball fans, people who don’t watch full games and rely on a curated highlight clip, will say that this list makes sense. He said that someone who has yet to play a game in the league can never be put above players who have proven themselves.

Additionally, Beverley believes that an athlete’s longevity should also be taken into consideration when preparing any list of similar contexts.
