Golden State Warriors star player Draymond Green has been no stranger to on-court scuffles during the current season. Having gone through one in November and then again in December, the player’s actions resulted in him getting suspended for a combined 21 games. While it seemed that Green would have learned his lesson after the same, fans were proven wrong during the recent matchup between the Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies.
As the game was progressing during the second quarter, the Warriors star was seen engaging in an altercation with Grizzles shooting guard Desmond Bane. The altercation resulted in Grizzles coach Taylor Jenkins being reportedly “knocked down” on the court and the Warriors player once again getting into trouble.
In the aftermath of the game, Draymond Green addressed the incident. According to ESPN reporter Kendra Andrews, the player put out a statement that had him claiming “i got grabbed and snatched my arm away and got a tech … it kind of woke our team up. We got going from there and never looked back, so shout out to them. Maybe they were trying to get me thrown out, but it worked against them.”

Draymond on the little scuffle: “i got grabbed and snatched my arm away and got a tech … it kind of woke our team up. We got going from there and never looked back, so shout out to them. Maybe they were trying to get me thrown out, but it worked against them.”

We can’t say for certain whether the Green-Bane scruffle “woke” up the team. However, the Warriors did end up delivering a spectacular performance by establishing a 17-point lead during the 2 and 3 quarters. Draymond Green himself contributed 10 points to the overall total while also grabbing an impressive 12 rebounds in the process. In the end, the Warriors won by a score of 137-116.
Despite the intensity with which Green and Bane engaged on the court, it didn’t take them too long to let bygones by bygones. A couple of minutes after the incident, the two players were seen clearing things up by shaking hands and engaging in a verbal apology. The Warriors star may have cleared things up with the player. However, fans will have to wait and see whether this recent action may cost the player another suspension.

Green’s comment about his rivals looking to get him “thrown out” may have been considered speculation by some. For the others, however, it would have been a stark reminder of the intense rivalry that the Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzles have shared for years.
According to reports, tensions between the two teams have existed since the 2020-21 NBA regular season. The Warriors had emerged victorious during the final regular season game against the team and secured the 8th seed for themselves. However, after meeting again during the play-in series, the Grizzles won and eliminated the Warriors from the post-season.

The chances for redemption for Green’s team appeared in the next season when the Warriors eliminated their rivals from the playoffs and even went on to hoist the championship trophy. With the Warriors currently ranked as the 10th seed on the points chart and the Grizzles 13th, the teams will likely meet again in the play-in series. It is left to be seen whether Draymond Green will hold his cool if such a situation arises.
