Despite holding the second seed in the Eastern Conference, Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t happy with his team. The Milwaukee Bucks pulled off a blockbuster trade days before the season opener, by roping in Damian Lillard. Since then, the team has been performing well, keeping their domination intact, but the Greek Freak looks for something more from his teammates. Amid these cries for perfection, an ex-Lakers player dropped a hammer on the superstar with a surprise statement.

Ever since Giannis took over the leadership of the Milwaukee side, the team always stayed afloat on the top of the table, dominating the regular season. Importantly, the 29-year-old went on his first ring in 2021. But, this team repeatedly failed to convert their regular season domination into the playoffs. Addressing the Bucks’ snag, former player Nick Young picked his favorites.

In the latest episode of Gil’s Arenas, the panel discussed Giannis Antetokounmpo’s recent statement. Following the disappointing 108-112 loss against the Houston Rockets, the superstar expressed displeasure with the team’s defense.

He said, “We have to be better. In order for us to win, we have to be better. We cannot just rely on our offense of scoring 130 points, 140 points every single night. It’s not going to work that way,” reported The Athletic.

Adding to that, Gilbert Arenas also subscribed to Giannis’ request to his team. While the Bucks star expected his teammates to play better, Arenas went up a notch higher and even expected the water boys and announcers to get better at their parts. Meanwhile, one of the panel members, Nick Young, interrupted Arenas and said, “I don’t care what they do, Boston in 6.”

While the Boston Celtics are currently at the top of the East, there are high chances for them to clinch it.

But, the story from last season says something else. Let’s find out more about it.

Why is Giannis insisting on his teammates to perform better?

The Milwaukee Bucks are currently in the second seed behind the Celtics and yet Giannis wants his team to perform better. While there isn’t any clarity on the reason behind this statement, at the same time it could be because of the aftermath of last season.

In the last season, the Bucks led the East in the regular season points table but lost to the eight-seeded team in the playoff round 1. One of the main reasons for the loss was, Giannis missed a few games in the series because of an injury. Similarly, the team lost a few games this season, despite Giannis’ impressive performance, hence the superstar might have tried to extract the best out of his teammates.
