Donovan Mitchell Breaks Into Ugly Fight With Draymond Green After Countering Warriors Star in Heated Moment

The rivalry between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors goes a long way back. The two teams crossed paths and played each other four consecutive times in the NBA Finals between 2015-2018. Along the way, there have been multiple instances where the players from both teams have butted heads.

On Saturday night, another incident was added to this list. And it involved everyone’s favorite, high-strung Draymond Green, and Donovan Mitchell. It got quite ugly and needed intervention from the referee.

The Draymond-Donovan incident explained

In the third quarter, when the Cavs were on the offense. Green shoved Mitchell out of bounds just as Caris LeVert made a two-point. The referees were too busy calling the shot to notice this exchange. Then, as the ball came into the Warriors’ possession, Draymond took over. But Donovan decided to give him back with a push of his own. This caught everyone’s attention, with even the coaches coming out to the floor to stop the fight.

Upon review to see if Mitchell’s push met the criteria for a flagrant foul, it was ruled as a common foul. They also found that Green was the one who initiated this scuffle. This led to a ruling of his second technical foul, after which he was ejected from the game. The Warriors forward’s first was him yelling at an official earlier in the game.

Mitchell’s reaction to the ejection

After Draymond was removed from the floor, the Cavaliers’ guard was seen saying, ?F*ck outta here? with his hands in the peace sign.

All of these theatrics mean that Draymond could only play 18 minutes, putting up eight points with five rebounds and four assists. Despite Stephen Curry’s 30 points, the Warriors had to settle for a 110-118 loss, their fourth this season. Cleveland, on the other hand, got their fourth win, with Caris LeVert putting up 22 points. Donovan Mitchell finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and a couple of steals.

The Warriors will next play against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night.
