In the world of NBA media, where stories sometimes outweigh facts, Devin Booker’s decision to join forces with Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal on the Phoenix Suns demonstrates his dedication and sacrifice in pursuit of greatness. As the three dealt with increased expectations, attention, and a difficult start to the season, Booker’s strength and commitment to building a championship-caliber squad became increasingly clear.
In an interview with The Athletic, Booker spoke about his sacrifice that extends beyond sharing the limelight with two basketball legends. It even includes adjusting to a new style of play, finding an identity, and compelling teams to respond to the Suns rather than the other way around. Booker explained, “I still feel confident that we have the better team going into every night.”
To further illustrate on this Booker said “There’s different layers to it. I think it’s finding certain lineups that mesh well together. If there’s two of the three of us out there (among the stars), or one of the three of us out there, it’s just finding certain packages on both sides of the floor that work best for those groups.” With this Booker explained how the trio can be divided and still be utilized at its full potential, however even then, when one of the three misses a game, the trio is blamed collectively.

The Suns encountered challenges, most notably with Beal’s absence due to his back and ankle issues, which forced him to miss a lot of games early in the season. Before his injury, Durant, Booker, and Beal had just played eight games together and were still in the early phases of their collective growth. However, a positive turn of events occurred for the Valley of the Sun after their difficult Christmas Day loss against the Dallas Mavericks.
With Beal’s comeback and the trio finding their groove, the Suns have won seven of their previous ten games, with a net rating of plus-6.4, ranking ninth in the league during that time. However, as Beal came back, Durant suffered a hamstring injury and missed three games, but the club managed to get two wins and suffer just one loss without him. When Durant was out due to his injury, Booker called out the fans and analysts and urged them not to question his ability to lead the Suns to victory, and highlighted his high-level performances and ability to compete at the greatest level.
