The adrenaline rush began and subsided with the first preseason game of NBA 2023?2024. With the first match already in the archive, the second edition of the Abu Dhabi Games saw Minnesota vs. the Dallas Mavericks on the floor.
It?s no surprise that preseason games offer a deep insight into what ?we? can expect from the team before they play the regular season. However, direct comparisons between preseason and regular-season performances are a bit misguided. With that precinct in mind, it?s important to shed some light on Irving?s recent play. In a post-practice interview, Kyrie said, ?Honestly, it?s much better to start from day one. And, you know, honestly, you can set your expectations for where you want them to be.? However, the game didn?t say much about the expectations.
Kyrie Irving was a part of the Mavericks starting lineup and spent a big 13 minutes on the court. However, when we bring in the points scored, then it didn?t turn out well for the player. With a score of 2 points, 2 assists, 1 REB, and ? FGM, it?s okay to assume that the machine needs some oiling.

Although that wasn?t a great play, fans somehow weren?t satisfied with the playtime he got. To witness some more NBA-caliber action in person, the crowd started chanting, ?We Want Kyrie.? Despite the requests, the muted performance didn’t see a comeback in the second half.

What followed was a trademark record by the Minnesota Timberwolves, although Anthony Edwards couldn?t make a move. Well, the franchise didn?t let the game slide away, and Karl Anthony Town came to the rescue.

The Dallas Mavericks fell short of points in the first quarter. However, Luka Don?i? made some magic happen on the court, with a humongous score of 25 points and 8/14 shooting in 16 minutes on the floor.
With the second game lined up, the two new Dallas rookies got some time to shake off the rust and go all in. With the second match of the Abu Dhabi games about to happen in under 48 hours, we will see how the court greats Oliver-Maxence Prosper and Dereck Lively II.
