The Los Angeles Lakers remain the talk of the town. This is despite them almost wrapping up their offseason with the major moves. They have brought back the talents of D?Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves to run it back around LeBron James again. Signing Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, and Taurean Prince in the free agency indicates their focus on the bench. Despite not signing a big name this season, they have been floating in the rumor mill ceaselessly.?

But this time comes murmurs of a departure, not an arrival. So, how are things brewing for a major part of the team?

The Lakers are surprisingly not going to pay a luxury tax bill (at the time of the writing). They signed D?Angelo Russell for a bargain, giving him around $17 million a year. Austin Reaves only costs about $12 million a year. Hachimura?s playoff ascendancy helped him fetch a $15 million contract. And these are not big-time contracts considering the current market!

LeBron is unsurprisingly commanding a salary of around $50 million dollar but there is one other contract that is costing a lot. This contract is of Anthony Davis. His annual salary is around $40 million and the second-biggest contract on the Lakers? books.?

AD is an integral part of the Lakers? system. Last season when LeBron went down with an injury, he put up MVP-level numbers. This became instrumental in the team making a deep playoff run despite a thin Regular Season. However, the Center himself missed 26 games last season. He had missed more than half of his games during the past two seasons.

It is unlikely that the Purple and Gold will bring him back owing to his injury woes. This can spark interest in one other team. As per Sam Quinn of CBS Sports, the Brooklyn Nets are interested in him and may trade for him next season. Considering they traded away Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant last season, they have emptied the cap space. Although, they still have Ben Simmons? $37 million a year salary. Never having won a title before, they are desperate to bring in a star player who can make them reach new heights.

The Amazing Power Forward/Center is currently 30 and his injury history doesn?t serve him well. Considering that he will enter his 30s, it seems like a gamble to offer him a big contract, or to take his contract. However, if not for eight-time All-Star, the LA Lakers wouldn?t have won the 2020 championship.

When he is active, he is undoubtedly a dominating player on both ends. A team like the Nets can benefit from having him around.
