On 29th September, we witnessed a blockbuster trade take place. The Blazers’ superstar, Damian Lillard, was the centerpiece of the trade. The trade took place between the Blazers, the Bucks and the Suns. While Bucks received Dame, Portland received Jrue Holiday, DeAndre Ayton, Toumani Camara, one first-round pick via the Bucks and two pick swaps. The Suns received Keon Johnson, Jusuf Nurkic, Nassir Little and Grayson Allen.

The Suns sneakily have addressed their lack of depth through this trade, adding valuable pieces such as Allen, Nurkic and Little. An after-thought in the trade, Grayson Allen could play a pivotal role in the Sun’s title charge.

Grayson “Dirty” Allen

Grayson Allen is a player who is alleged to be a dirty player. He has gained this reputation since his college days with Duke. Allen’s skill set perfectly complements the Sun’s big three of Beal, Booker and KD. Allen’s three-point efficiency is well known, and he is considered an above-average defender. In fact, last season Allen led the league in defensive rating till the new year. Every team needs a player like Allen, who isn’t afraid of doing the dirty work as he adds grit and determination in the Suns roster that is severely lacking in that department.

The Phoenix Suns aren’t considered a dirty team. They pride themselves on being competitive without crossing the line. Allen is known for his toughness and no holds barred approach towards basketball and it could be tough for Allen to integrate himself with the Sun’s ethos. But Allen could be the glue-guy like Draymond Green, who has found the right balance of being annoying and a player demanding respect from the opposing side because of his talents. Allen averaged 10.4 points, 2.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game last season.

Suns adding depth to their squad

The Suns can be considered as the winners of the Damian Lillard trade. As they flipped a disgruntled player in Ayton for three very good role players and a young player with high upside. They replaced DeAndre Ayton with Jusuf Nurkic, who is a much better fit with the big three of the Suns.

They also added the likes of Nassir Little and Allen to strengthen their roster. Little is a very good perimeter defender who can defend multiple positions. Keon Johnson is a wildcard as he is a player with very high upside but he is not on the Sun’s timeline.
