The next chapter of the trade deadline is upon the NBA. After all the improvements made to numerous rosters, there are a few players who still remain in the coveted buyout market. This year, one of the more interesting names is Spencer Dinwiddie. After an upsetting campaign with the Nets, he was traded to the Raptors, who waived him to save on bonus payment. Now, the competition is intensifying between two teams – the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks.

On Thursday, Dinwiddie delayed his trip from New York and was seen at the Madison Square Garden. He was there to watch the Mavericks take on the New York Knicks. Dallas also happens to be his former team who are reportedly in the running to scoop him from the buyout market.

However, the 30-year-old might be weighing his options. Tonight, he was sitting with his agent and Rob Pelinka carefully watching the Lakers destroy the Pelicans. The anticipation in the Laker Nation obviously grew. While a cold war might ensue, D’Angelo Russell dropped a major hint regarding Dinwiddie.

D’Angelo Russell predicts Spencer Dinwiddie will choose the Lakers

D’Lo, a man who had just dodged the trade deadline himself returned from a knee injury tonight. Missing one game didn’t deter his momentum in the slightest. In the demolition of the Pelicans, Russell dropped a team-high 30 points in the 122-139 for the Purple and Gold.

But the win was far from the biggest story of the night. Everyone was wondering whether Dinwiddie’s trip to the crypto.com arena meant he was joining the Lakers. The NBA media wanted answers, and so they went looking for them in the Lakers locker after the game. Approaching Russell, they laid the question out to him.

Instead of directly addressing the rumor, D’Lo added some suspense while also hinting an LA voyage might be in Dinwiddie’s story.

“Y’all will get to know him soon,” he told the media.

Dinwiddie has proved to be a scoring asset in the past. When on the Dallas Mavericks, he aided both Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson when they made the Western Conference Finals. He stretched the floor shooting 40% from three and had games in which he took on the onus to score the ball. His performance in the postseason truly stood out. He dropped 30 in the memorable Game 7 against the Phoenix Suns and averaged 14.2 points for the entire playoffs coming off the bench.

This season has been a challenging one for Spencer Dinwiddie. The numbers suggest he has declined from last season. Averaging barely over 12 points a game, he is only shooting a woeful 39% from the floor. His three-point percentage has also steeped to 32%.

Despite the drop in his production, the Mavericks and the Lakers are both in pursuit to sign him. With Dallas, he has a special connection with the fans, the arena, and some of the players. Playing in LA means playing for one of the most successful sports franchises of all time. It is a testament to one’s legacy.

If Dinwiddie does manage to restore his play from a few seasons ago, both Mavs and the Lakers could grow into contenders from that one single move. Both teams have dropped hints about welcoming Dinwiddie. But where he goes remains a question that will be answered soon.
