After a long-standing trade drama with the Portland Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard finally found his way out in the 2023 off-season. Since then, the 7x NBA All-Star barely spoke about his former team to the press after his affiliation with the Milwaukee Bucks. However, months after the trade, Lillard recently took to social media to walk down memory lane briefly by giving a new name to his former 23-year-old teammate. The naming ceremony came moments after the youngster decimated the Utah Jazz player, Walker Kessler.
Lillard ended his ties with the Blazers after 11 seasons. One of the main reasons being the team’s inability to chase the NBA title. In fact, the star requested the management to make significant changes in the roster to continue playing with the team. Ultimately, Lillard decide to quit the franchise and teamed up with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Now, Dame’s odds at the ring have increased, but he hasn’t forgotten his former team yet.

Following the trade, Damian Lillard received what he wished for: a ring chasing team. 20 games into the season, the Bucks currently stand at the 3rd seed of the Eastern Conference with a 14-6 record. Meanwhile, the misery continues for the Blazers, as they stand in the 13th seed of the Western Conference table with a 6-13 record.
Despite the poor record, the team showcased sprouts of impressive plays and match-ups from time to time. One such play which impressed Dame was of Shaedon Sharpe’s recent dunk.
In the Saturday night game between the Jazz and Blazers, 23-year-old Shaedon Sharpe posterized Walker Kessler with a massive dunk on him. Following the play, the video of the dunk went viral on social media. It didn’t fail to reach Lillard as well. In response, Dame took to his X handle and reposted the video clip. Along with it, he assigned Sharpe a new name, “The Don.”

Even though Dame barely chose to talk about his former team, he recently revealed his emotions for playing against the Blazers.
Dame opened up on Blazers
Ahead of Lillard’s first-ever match up against the Blazers, reporters asked him about emotions surrounding it. Dame said, ““I thought I would be anticipating more, but I’m not really caught up into it.” But, the star had a different analogy to it. He preferred playing in Portland to be more moving than playing against the Blazers in Wisconsin. He further said, “I don’t see it being that emotional… when we go back to Portland… once I walk in the building… when that happens that’s when… That will kind of bring that up but not here.”
