Kevin Durant has got to be one of the most polarizing figures in the modern NBA. On one hand, he can light up any court with his otherworldly abilities and efficiency. However, on the other hand, he is a player who has never been able to win an NBA title outside of the Bay Area. A prevalent belief is that he rode on the coattails of Stephen Curry to secure the two NBA titles he currently holds.
An X user by the name of MarlyP put up the same opinion on social media. He wrote, “Yo Kevin Durant i love you man but you broke me when you joined the team that beat you when you were up 3-1. That goat convo you’re not in because of that. To be the best you gotta beat the best. Warriors see top dog in the west. You gotta beat them before you face lebron.” To which Durant replied back by writing, “Man up”.

After losing to the Warriors in the 2015 playoffs, KD jumped ship from a promising OKC Thunder team to the 73-9 Warriors. His infamous move to the Golden State Warriors in the summer of 2016 has tainted his legacy. But having said that, Kevin Durant is undeniably one of the most talented hoopers to ever grace the NBA, and if he wants to prove his skeptics wrong, he would have to add to his tally of two NBA titles. But does Durant have sufficient help to win a title with the Phoenix Suns?
Can the Phoenix Suns win the 2024 NBA title?
In their illustrious 56-year history, the Phoenix Suns have never managed to clinch an NBA title. They hold the dubious record of the oldest franchise to never win the NBA title. However, new owner Mat Ishiba has poured millions into the franchise so that the Suns can finally end their long wait for an NBA title.

Due to Ishiba’s immense financial resources, the Suns have built one of the costliest teams in the current NBA. In fact, they have the third-highest payroll in the NBA, only behind the likes of the Warriors and the Clippers. However, a significant portion of their total payroll is allocated to Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. This has resulted in a very top-heavy roster composition. The Suns’ lack of quality rotation options becomes more noticeable when one of the ‘big three’ is either resting or dealing with an injury.

The Suns have underwhelmed so far this season. However, they have seemed to have turned a corner, as their recent form and performances have been spectacular. In fact, the Suns are on a five-game winning streak. While the Suns do possess some of the best offensive players in the NBA, their lack of quality bench options and sub-par defense might rear its ugly head in the postseason. At the moment, a title win looks extremely unlikely for the Suns. However, impossible things have happened in the NBA. All we can do is wait and watch.
