In a recent interview however, the 9 time All Star got candid about his time in Davidson and how it shaped his NBA career.

Stephen Curry has had an incredible journey to the top in the NBA. But before he was winning championships with the Warriors, he was the point guard for the Davidson Wildcats. This was the aspect of his life he wanted to showcase in his feature film, “Underrated”.
In a recent interview on ESPN, Curry talked about the film, also shedding light on some personal stories it covered. “It’s a special project, it’s kind of like the origin story of my Davidson Wildcat years….kind of what all went into my decision to go there,” he said.
Talking about the mindset that he carried with him from those days, he said, “Just what developed that underrated mindset for me that I still carry today….that chip on your shoulder was developed in those days.”
However, he also shared his experience of collaborating with Apple and his excitement for the project. “Working with Apple TV+, working with Peter Nicks, Ryan Coogler….I’m super excited for people to kind of go back in time and relive some amazing moments in my life,” he stated.

Davidson was a stepping stone for Curry
Stephen Curry was drafted 7th overall by the Warriors in 2009. Since his draft, Curry has only gone from strength to strength to become a generational player in the NBA. His extraordinary talent and work ethic elevated the Warriors franchise, making it one of the most successful dynasties in NBA history. Curry is a 4 time champion but before his glory in the NBA, he was a sophomore on the Davidson Wildcats roster.

Curry had an outstanding junior year with the Wildcats that majorly increased his chances of being a top draft pick. However, his decision to even play for the Wildcats had a lot of drama involved. The former Finals MVP had listed Duke as his top choice while he was choosing colleges. However, this interest was not reciprocated by the university.
As his attempts to join the Duke Blue Devils turned out unsuccessful, Curry joined the Davidson Wildcats. In his time with the Wildcats, Curry averaged an incredible 25.3 PPG in the NCAA March Madness. This made Curry a top draft prospect and led to his eventual stint with the Warriors.
