The 7′ 4 rookie Victor Wembanyama shocked the NBA world when he dismantled the Phoenix Suns twice in a row. Especially, the team which was offensively led by Kevin Durant. On the other hand, the French Baller already has a brewing rivalry against the 7 ‘1 Oklahoma City Thunder player Chet Holmgren for the ROYT award. But both big men seem to work in tandem to upset the bigwigs of the league. Following Wemby, Holmgren made Stephen Curry run for his points during the Golden State Warriors‘ In-season Tournament opener.

Even though Holmgren got drafted into the league in 2022, he made his debut for the OKC only this season. He suffered an injury during the 2022 off-season and missed the entire season. However, he trained with the side and set to be in contention for the ROYT award this year. Moreover, let’s find out how Holmgren’s influence affects Steph and his men.

1. Following the tradition

The NBA has always been the big man’s game. Even though few players like Stephen Curry, Allen Iverson, Chris Paul break all the odds and prove themselves, the game has been kind to the tall players. For instance, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid have been constantly in the contention for the MVP awards in the last few years. Following them, Holmgren and Wemby could also work up the ladder.

2. Promising draft picks after 2003

One of the most notable draft years of NBA was 2003, when LeBron James came into the spotlight. The Akron Hammer became a sensation ahead of his debut game. Two decades down the line, no other draft picks had become big hits, until Wemby’s entry in 2023 Draft. He was all over the news when he entered the country for the draft pick.

Similarly, Chet Holmgren was picked #2 in the 2022 draft, but he became a sensation after his comparison with the French baller. Importantly, both have already lived up to their expectation.

3. Dubs and their height

In the last decade, the Warriors have always struggled with the height factor. The tallest player of the core three is Klay Thompson who is 6 ‘7. This could definitely be costly for the Dubs since shooting from the arc is their major skill set and Wemby and Holmgren seem to be blocking them away for fun.

Despite all the odds against the team which have always been questioned for its height, the Dubs prove them wrong again.

Stephen Curry proves everyone wrong again

Stephen Curry had the perfect set-up for his reply to 7′ 1 tall Chet Holmgren in the final few seconds of the game. While the scores were tied at 139, Curry had the ball with less than 15 seconds left in the clock. The Baby-faced Assassin held his ground and ran down the paint for a lay-up over the big man Holmgren and took the two-point lead with 0.2 seconds left the clock. Eventually, the Dubs went on to win their first In-season tournament game and his battle against Holmgren
