“Changed My Life”: Kai Jones Gives Props to Drake and Kendrick Lamar for the Inspiration Behind ‘Infinity Money’

The controversial former Charlotte Hornets’ big man, Kai Jones, is here with some answers. Appearing in the Vizion podcast, Jones opens up on a variety of topics. Jones had a troubling period with the Hornets during his stint with them. From erratic behavior on Instagram to challenging NBA legends, Kai certainly garnered much attention.

But no one can contest the fact that the 22-year-old is multi-talented. Speaking to his high school friend and currently, the podcast host, Jones speaks at length about his musical interests.

Kai Jones talks about the inspiration behind his latest song

Even when Kai was going through personal problems, one thing remained constant – music. He has often posted pictures and videos of him just enjoying music without any care in the world. And according to him, “Music is the key to the universe.” But the key inspiration for his latest song, “Infinity Money,” is Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

“Because perspective, bro … Drake changed my life with things that he said … things Kendrick Lamar said changed my life,” he added. Though the name of the song is “Infinity Money”, Jones wasn’t talking about hard cash here. At least not straight away. Explaining further, he says that if we are going to consider one’s mind as wealth, then everyone would have infinite money.

Because ideas, plans, and more come from one’s mind. When you put your thoughts into action, they generate wealth for you. Providing a few suggestions for the benefit of the viewers, he says, “My money is infinite, ’cause I can come up with an idea. I can start a podcast. I can make a song. I can do modeling. I can play basketball, make shots, and get my money.” 

And it certainly looks like this is exactly the mantra Kai Jones follows throughout. Along with the rapper-duos, Jones also mentions his long-time inspiration – the legendary Frank Sinatra. Truly authentic, Jones believes Sinatra’s My Way describes his perspective on life perfectly.

‘Trust your intuition’ – Jones believes this to be the key to being authentic

Living your life on your own terms is a dream come true for many. And for many NBA players, this is something they have achieved. Jones is also a big believer in the same. “While I understand other perspectives, but you gotta trust your intuition and trust your way of being, and construct who you really wanna be,” he said.

My Way might be a tribute to the ultimate American outlook on life, but it did almost ruin the former Hornets’ forward-center’s NBA aspirations. As mentioned above, all the social media gimmicks might have been forgiven, attributing them to his age or the sudden fame that comes with being in the league. But Jones’ trade request via social media is what did it for him.

Following this, Charlotte waived him and since no other team drafted him, Jones entered unrestricted free agency. But he is

a pretty good player. His stats from the two seasons Kai played for the Hornets are proof of this. While playing an average of 9.1 minutes, he’s scored 2.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, and an admirable field goal percentage of 56.7.
