Andreas Obst currently plays in the German league for Bayern Munich. The 27-year-old shooting guard was an integral part of the German roster in the World Cup. While the team also had NBA regulars such as Dennis Shroder and Franz Wagner, they also had Euro league players. Recently, Basketball On X tweeted an excerpt of Obst’s comments which had a hint of what sprinter Noah Lyles said about the league.
“In the NBA, they say they are World Champions because the best players in the world play there, but they are still Champions of the domestic league…They can call themselves whatever they want, the bottom line doesn’t change. We are the world champions”, said Obst. Although his comments are more nuanced, it has eerie similarities to the points he has been making.

Lyles Caught Series Blowback for His Comments
“You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head,” said Lyles. The 26-year-old also won gold in the men’s 100 and 4×100 relay at the Athletics World Championships. He further added, “World champion of what? The United States? Don’t get me wrong. I love the U.S. — at times — but that ain’t the world. That is not the world. We are the world. We have almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag to show that they are represented. There ain’t no flags in the NBA. We gotta do more.
