Bronny James’ Basketball Career Gets the Green Light 130 Days After Cardiac Arrest Scare

Being the son of NBA icon LeBron James, Bronny has garnered significant attention since his high school basketball days. The immense hype surrounding him led to inevitable comparisons with his father, bringing substantial expectations onto his young shoulders. Nevertheless, Bronny looked to be on the path to the NBA. However, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest in late July, which led to rampant speculation about his future in basketball.

But, just 130 days after suffering cardiac arrest, Bronny has been declared fit to play basketball. He is expected to make his debut for the Trojans soon.

Bronny to resume practice from next week

Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest on 27th July while practicing at the facilities of University of Southern California. He had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, however, it was deemed treatable by medical professionals. This led to speculation about Bronny’s future in basketball.

However, just 130 days later, Bronny has been declared fit to participate in college basketball. According to the Athletics’ Shams Charania, “USC freshman Bronny James has been cleared to make a full return to basketball.” Charania also reported that Bronny “will resume practice next week for Trojans and return to games soon after.” Bronny’s comeback to basketball introduces the potential for witnessing him compete in the NBA down the line.

Prior to this setback, ESPN projected Bronny to become a lottery pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. However, his long absence due to the heart defect might have significantly lowered his stock as a coveted draft prospect. Nevertheless, the prospect of LeBron and Bronny sharing the court could be one of the most surreal moments in NBA history.

LeBron’s dream

Despite his absurd achievements in the NBA, LeBron is yet to fulfill his dream of playing with his eldest son, Bronny. He has stated on multiple occasions that he desires to share the court with Bronny. In an interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, LeBron said, “I need to be on the floor with my boy. I gotta be on the floor with Bronny.” He added further, “I would love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr./Jr. thing. That would be ideal, for sure, being with him, spending a full year with him in the same uniform. That would be the icing on the cake.”

It looks like LeBron’s dream might be fulfilled sooner rather than later. Despite not participating in any games for USC this season, Bronny is anticipated to be selected by the Lakers with the 25th pick in the draft. Now that Bronny has returned in good health, will the NBA witness the first appearance of a father-son duo on its courts?
