As the offseason progresses, Christian Wood remains an unrestricted free agent without a team. And the Los Angeles Lakers have had their eyes set on Christian Wood for some time now. The versatile forward is still one of the most sought-after names in the remaining free-agent pool despite a successful season with the Dallas Mavericks. During his last season, he averaged excellent 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 67 games.

Wood could be a crucial addition to their roster despite any difficulties his playing style might pose. The acquisition of Wood might bring in a huge offensive boost. In addition to his offensive skills, Wood can considerably help the Lakers’ rebounding attempts. Although he is not regarded as a significant rebounding option, the acquisition of another big man could lessen the rebounding load on important players like AD. And according to Los Angeles Times, Wood still seems like the “top choice” for the Lakers.

However, according to recent sources, the Lakers’ mission to acquire Wood might not be that easy.

Wood might not get the contract he desires with the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers efforts to sign free agent Christian Wood appear to have run into financial difficulties. Per reliable sources, the organization can only offer the talented power forward a veteran’s minimum contract. Information provided by NBA insider Marc Stein dispelled speculation that a sign-and-trade situation would be in the works to give Wood a more lucrative deal.

Christian Wood bagged 14.3 million last year. He entered the free agent market with hopes of a better contract than the previous one. Will the Lakers be willing to reach a compromise with Wood considering the recent contract with AD? Only time will tell.
