Free agency is a dooming prospect for many NBA players. Earlier this year that was the case for Kelly Oubre Jr. Despite being consistent and scoring 20.3 points a game for the Charlotte Hornets, in their otherwise disappointing season, he was relegated to free agency. This came after he publicly mentioned that he wanted to come back for another stint with the Hornets.

After being betrayed by ?Michael Jordan‘s former team, the 27-year-old guard signed with the ?Philadelphia 76ers? last month. His stint with Philadelphia has been successful despite the James Harden Drama. More recently, he talked about his being “disheartened “?in an interview.

His performance left room for improvement, as he had a shooting percentage of 43.1% from the field and 31.9% from beyond the arc. When Oubre was in the game, Charlotte’s point differential was a deficit of 7.7 points per 100 possessions, according to NBA.com. This was while they fared slightly better with a deficit of 4.8 points per 100 possessions when he was on the bench.

Given that LaMelo Ball was limited to just 36 games due to several ankle injuries, Charlotte heavily relied on Oubre’s scoring. The Hornets faced a challenging season overall, concluding with a lackluster 27-55 record.

However, Oubre Jr now finally feels comfortable with his new role in the 76ers.

In the first three games, Oubre has maintained a 19.0 points per game average, but his approach has shifted. He’s no longer seeking individual plays but instead contributing to the Sixers’ offensive rhythm, driving to the paint or taking three-point shots. He’s also embracing a defensive role, using his athleticism to disrupt opponents and capitalizing on fast breaks.
