Bad news for Nets fans as Ben Simmons will be absent from the team for the foreseeable future. The three-time All-Star is reportedly suffering from a nerve issue. Injuries have been plaguing Simmons for the last few seasons. He joined Brooklyn in February 2022 but made his debut in October after suffering from continued back issues.

The 27-year-old played just 42 games last season before his time was cut short due to knee issues in March. After rehab and undergoing a surgery, his return was supposed to be healthy and in form. But, things have not really improved for the point guard.

His agent Bernie Lee shared, “Ben had an MRI in the last couple of days & its shown us he’s experiencing some nerve irritation on the lower left side of his body which is going to cause him to miss to some time as he rehabs & builds himself back…”

Bernie further explained that this injury was not something similar to his previous ones. He added, “This is something that the expectation is that with the proper kind of rehab, he’ll be able to resume his season in a short period of time without any issue.” The Nets also released a statement calling it a ‘nerve impediment’.

The Australian has already missed three games since November 6th and is expected to miss for some time. However, there is no definite timeline for his return.

The guard’s debut season with Brooklyn was one of his career lows averaging just minutes 26.3 per game while putting up 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. This season, however, Ben played his best averaging 6.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 6.7 assists in his six outings with the team.

Without him, the Nets will experience a huge gap in their skill. It is believed they won’t be able to play with the same kind of pace in transition. Head coach Jacque Vaughn also shared the same thought when he spoke to the media, saying, “His ability to push the basketball, we’ll always be at a deficit if he’s not playing in transition. You just have dudes who can’t push it as fast. He also added, “We’ll continue to try to encourage them to do that but Ben has a special talent of being able to push the basketball, make or miss, and get us shots. Just without him, we’ll miss some of that element.”
