Things were looking good for the Lakers last season as they defeated the Warriors in the Conference semi-finals. Spirits were high as they geared up to square off against the Nuggets for the Western Conference Finals. However, they did not stand a chance as they lost 4-0 against the now reigning NBA Champions and had to bid adieu to their playoff run.

When it comes to the playoffs, it is common knowledge that the games become more intense and the players are locked in more than ever. The Lakers’ young star Austin Reaves shares his experience of being in the playoffs with LeBron, and it is exactly what one would expect.

It is all about the attention to details

As Reaves admits, he realized that attention to every single game in the playoffs matters, and he learned this from King James himself. In a recent episode of The Old Man and The Three episode, hosted by former NBA star JJ Redick, the 25-year-old shared, “Having Bron in your corner you know helps, uh just because he’s you know, been there a million times. He’s played in all those games but you can tell as soon as the playoffs rolls around, like him and AD, their attention to everything is, it’s laser focus.”

When the playoffs come around, everything goes up; the stakes are higher and the competition shoots up. As for Reaves, he reveals that he has no problem locking into the games as they become more serious and intense. That, for him, is a blessing, as he admits that he is not “blessed enough to you know kind of just freestyle it.” Reaves also adds that being a young star and playing alongside vets like LeBron has its perks.

Following the blueprint

For one, Reaves has learned how to be a pro and maintain the discipline that comes with greatness. he says, “First in the gym, the last to leave, you know……not many people can play this long I mean honestly nobody’s done it at this high of a level…I mean he basically lays out the blueprint for you.” Austin is amazed at the level at which LeBron takes care of his body and seeing it firsthand was an eye-opener for him.

He credits his realization of the importance of recovery to Bron, having never been told about it before. Reaves has continuously impressed Bron as a teammate and having not missed any of the Lakers’ 28 games so far in the season, he has managed to secure averages of 15.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists.
