From the time teams came to know about the availability of Dejounte Murray, he has been the most sought trade prospect. The Atlanta Hawks also know the value of the 27-year-old guard and are waiting on an offer worthy of their interest. The biggest reason why many teams are showing interest in the former All-Star is because he is having a great season and will be a valuable addition to any team he joins.

On the #thisleague UNCUT podcast, American reporter Marc Stein and NBA insider Chris Haynes had a conversation about the trade talks surrounding Dejounte Murray. Stein asked Haynes about the rumors that Atlanta wanted 2 first-round picks at least for Dejounte Murray, because they traded so much to get him.

While Haynes agreed with the reporter on this, he also added that the teams have to remember what the Hawks gave up for Murray and explained, saying, “They gave up three first-round picks and a first-round pick swap in that deal. So they are not getting that back in return. So I was told that it was going to take two first-round picks and also a quality player.”

The teams that have shown interest in Murray are the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs. The Hawks have even had a negotiation talk with the Los Angeles Lakers about the former All-Star. Considering the competitive nature of the talks, Atlanta’s demands will most likely be fulfilled before the trade deadline. However, if Dejounte Murray is such a valuable addition to every team, why are the Atlanta Hawks wanting to trade him?

The desired results were not achieved by Dejounte Murray

Averaging 21.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, Dejounte Murray has become a major contributor to the Hawks’ success. He has even shown his composure by thriving under pressure, making clutch shots for the team, and winning them games in their last two outings. However, the Hawks brought in Murray in 2022 to pair him with their cornerstone, Trae Young, and take the team higher. But that didn’t happen as the Hawks were thwarted in the first rounds of playoffs by the Boston Celtics. And their chances do not look any better this season as well.

Regardless, Murray is a valued asset, with 4 years and $120 million remaining on his deal after this season.
