Since being drafted number one overall, Victor Wembanyama has been all the rage among NBA fans. The hype surrounding Wembanyama is so huge that even NBA legends and a lot of analysts have made some bold comparisons even before the young French national has played a single NBA game.?

Victor Wembanyama has been compared to the likes of Zion Williamson and LeBron James to name a few. But another comparison that is being thrown into the mix is to former All-Star center Dwight Howard. And this is what his former teammate had to say about it.

Dwight Howard’s former teammate was all praises

There is no argument for the fact that Victor Wembanyama is a gifted player. His 7?5 frame paired with his skills makes him an exceptional talent that the league has yet to see. But how does he compare to a prime Dwight Howard?

Dwight Howard was the number one pick by the Orlando Magic in the 2004 NBA draft. Coming straight out of high school, Howard was an absolute menace on the court and quickly became the face of the team.

Recently, former teammate Jameer Nelson made an appearance on the podcast, Road Trippin’. He joined Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye, and Allie Clifton. As the show went on, RJ went on to ask Nelson if he?d choose a prime Dwight or Wembanyama.

To that, Nelson made a strong point. He said, ?When we were in Orlando together, he was arguably the number one or number two in terms of face of the league, for a while, for a couple of years.?

?Like, defensive player of the year, you can name all accolades. And for us as a team, we were always top one or two in the league. So, that was a big part of it because of him.?

Did Nelson make the right pick?

Jameer Nelson went on to talk about Howard?s prowess and the attention he demanded from the opposing defense in almost every position. Even Richard Jefferson agreed with it on how Howard was able to collapse the defense on pick and rolls.

But eventually, RJ brought up his question again and demanded an answer. Nelson right away said, ?I?m taking Dwight.? And rightfully so, given how big of an impact Howards had on the team and the league as well.

Plus, San Antonio Spurs‘ Wembayama has yet to play in the league so for him to choose a rookie who hasn?t played yet over his former teammate would not make sense either. On that note, the anticipation to see Wemby perform is growing even bigger.
