The Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling to defend three-pointers for a while now and it was evident in the loss against the Phoenix Suns. This issue has led to several losses this season. However, Anthony Davis feels the team has been unlucky and the opponents have been extra motivated when facing the Lakers.

When asked about the team’s struggle after the game, Davis said, “Realizing that everybody, no matter what their numbers are shoots well against us. If a guy is shooting 10 percent, he’s gonna shoot 40 against us. Just knowing that. There hasn’t been a time where the numbers have told the truth to us when we’ve played guys. I mean, even Brad’s been struggling. So we gotta play everybody like they’re Steph when they play against us because these guys — not just this team — everybody has shot the ball well against us,” as per Jovan Buha from The Athletic.

Davis is apparently frustrated with opponent players scoring big numbers against the Lakers. But does it have any truth behind it? It certainly has to a degree in Beal’s case. Like AD suggested, Beal, who has been struggling a bit after his injury return, was unstoppable today.

Notably, he scored a game-high 37 points and went 8 of 10 from the three-point arc. This was his first 30-point game this season and for the Suns. Also, the 3x All-Star struggled massively in the last two games and scored 12 and 15 points, respectively. But he was at his best against the Lakers. Perhaps, Kevin Durant’s strong pre-game message inspired him as well.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James struggled

The Lakers’ inefficiency in guarding the three-point territory was one of the reasons behind the loss against the Suns. As Anthony Davis claimed, Bradley Beal‘s improved performance had a hand as well. However, it wasn’t just that. The Lakers star had a poor game as well, which sealed the win for Phoenix.

After dominating the Toronto Raptors last game and scoring 41 points with 11 rebounds, Davis was quiet in the loss. In 32 minutes, he had 13 points and 5 rebounds as per ESPN. LeBron James had one of his poorest games of the season. He had 10 points, 9 assists, and 5 rebounds in 24 minutes of play. He was very poor from the field, making 3 of 11 and going 0 of 4 from the three-point arc.
