Amidst Victor Wembanyama’s Troubled NBA Summer League Debut, LeBron James Recalls a Nearly Two-Decade-Old Bold Question With His 156,000,000 Fans

The much-awaited Victor Wembanyama showcase went underway during the Friday night NBA Summer League game. Despite the San Antonio Spurs’ victory over the Charlotte Hornets, Wemby’s underwhelming performance irked a lot of adverse reaction from fans. Moreover, a Hornets star disrespected the 7 ‘4 French man during the intense game. Amid the Frenchman drama, 38-year-old LeBron James recalled a two-decade-old question to his social media followers.  

The hype around the 19-year-old star stayed afloat throughout the 2022-23 season and took center stage after the 2023 NBA Draft. The Spurs picked him as the #1 draft and since then Victor Wembanyama’s media coverage has skyrocketed. However, the popularity comes along with a bag load of expectations from the hoops community.

Just like Victor Wembanyama, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James entered the league with massive expectations set on him. The media was all over him after the Cleveland Cavaliers picked him as the #1 draft pick in 2003. Almost two decades after his rookie season, James recalled a bold question raised against him. 

The Akron Hammer took to his Instagram and shared the cover page of a 2005 February edition Sport Illustrated magazine. The cover page carried an important question aimed at James, which read, “Best Ever?” 

Additionally, that particular edition published an interview with the superstar during his second season. Moreover, he won NBA Rookie of the Year in the previous season.

Incidentally, James’ recent IG story coincided with the fuming question raised against the French baller after his underwhelming debut game in the summer league.

Importantly, a video clip of Wemby posterized by a Hornets player took over the internet and fans immediately questioned his abilities.

While the jam-packed Las Vegas arena expected a Wemby show on Friday night, the rising star went off to a shaky start and eventually produced an underwhelming game. He registered a poor field goal percentage of 15% with 13 attempts and ended up scoring 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. However, the Spurs won the game 88-76 with Julian Champagnie’s offensive brilliance.

The Spurs have two more games left in the summer league and Wemby has his opportunities to shut off his critics immediately with a powerful performance
