NBA offseason brings us the various sides of an NBA player. Stephen Curry has proven that he could have been a pro golfer after nabbing the ACC title. But this goes beyond sports. For some NBA players, music becomes an avenue of exploration. This stands especially true for Damian Lillard. He is one of the most respected rappers in the hooping community, where hundreds try their luck in the field.

In his latest drop, he might have left some hints.

Damian Lillard doesn’t change his location?

Fans know Damian Lillard for his loyalty. The Guard who came out of Weber State has become one of the best players in the league. In an era where superstars jump ships quickly, Dame stuck to the Portland Trail Blazers.

His rap game is as smooth as his jump shot. His flow and smoothness oozes from every orifice. Thanks to that, he has released four studio albums and will drop another called The Way It Goes. Just hours ago, he released another track called “Cabo” which features Sy Ari Da Kid.

One part of the lyrics goes: “We ’bout to dive in the ocean. I wanna dive in the throat. I never change the location”.

This part probably implies that Dame isn’t interested in changing his location. Is this a hint that once he gets to the Heat, he doesn’t want to change the team unless there is an unmitigable circumstance?

He has spent the majority of his prime in Portland, but playoff success has been limited or non-existent. Therefore, the Guard has now decided to change his team. He’s done with the years of falling way short. He only wants to play for the Heat and no one else. If he gets traded elsewhere, he may not even show up for work.

While many have questioned his decision, Lillard has missed Playoffs during the last two instances. He has lost four series to the Warriors in the Playoffs, and lately, the team isn’t even a play-in squad.

The Guard has never played with a superstar level of player and, unlike Nikola Jokic, he doesn’t have a team that’s effective on both ends. The current set-up of the team is incomplete.

Things clicked with Jerami Grant in the first part of last season, but injuries exposed the lack of depth. The Trail Blazers were getting beaten in the open court and stood no chance on most nights.

Why is Damian Lillard changing his location?

Therefore, the superstar is searching for a defensive-minded squad. This is where the Miami Heat comes into play. During their historic run last season, they knocked out the first-seed Bucks in the first round and then rolled the second-seed Celtics in the East Finals. These characteristics have been lacking in Lillard’s team for years. They are just not well-equipped to deal with the team that wins over 50% of their games.

On the flip side, for the Heat, this fit makes sense. The Heat needed a long-range shooter after Herro’s injury. Lillard is a great fit as both a creator and spot-up shooter. Jimmy’s burden lessens on offense and Dame’s work lessens on defense.

Therefore, if things work out, Lillard may not change his location in Miami soon. But first, when will the move take place? Is there another twist in the tale?
