The Golden State Warriors seem to have fallen out of favor with the basketball Gods. With a consecutive six-game losing streak, the Dub Nation is on the verge of a mental breakdown. But it will take more than that to break up the dynasty that the Splash Brothers in hand with Draymond Green helped build.

Looking back at the tough times the Warriors had to endure over the years, this is, at most a minor setback. But failure is a tough pill to swallow. For Kerr and his team who saw only victories and four championship rings during this time, this would be a very hard time, indeed.

Watching how Curry and co. have already lost six games one after another, it might take us back to similar losing streaks over the years. The longest yet was in the 1960s. The 1964-65 season saw the Warriors lose 17 games in succession.

The losing streak started on December 20, 1964, and continued until January 28, 1965. Their first loss happened at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers with a score of 111-113. From then, it went on like this against practically every team like the Knicks, Lakers, Royals, Hawks, and so on.

A respite to this happened when they faced off against the Cincinnati Royals or as we know them now, the Sacramento Kings. The Golden State finally broke their streak with a 105-90 victory over the Royals. It was the famous Wilt Chamberlain era in San Francisco.

They were coached by Alex Hannum and the roster also featured players like Al Attles, Connie Dierking, Wayne Hightower, Paul Neumann, Gary Hill, Cotton Nash, George Lee, and more. Soon Chamberlain was traded to the 76ers and that was the end of Wilt’s time with the Warriors. Fast forward to now, and Steph and the team are facing different roadblocks that have many pundits predicting they won’t make the playoffs.

What has caused the Warriors’ poor start to the season?

The most obvious answer is that Stephen Curry does not have any help. Pretty much the same situation that LeBron James of the Lakers talisman. Curry has an average of 30.7 points this season. The second scorer, Thompson has just 14.6 points on average. Not the stats you would look for the second-in-command.

Looking at the rest of the team, for a Warrior other than Steph to score 20 points happened after 12 games into the season. Curry is indeed the leader, but it won’t be so all the time. It’s high time the rest of the team picked up pace.

Another issue is their 3-point shooting. This season’s three point percentage is 35.1, as compared to last season’s 38.5% from beyond the arc (StatMuse). And then there is Klay Thompson. Even though he came into the season with great promise, Thompson still seems to be struggling with his jumper. There is also the tiny matter of him becoming an unrestricted free agent.

That should be enough for many to wonder and wonder some more. Well, the few reasons mentioned here are enough to give an idea that there are areas of improvement for the team. If they can overcome that, the Golden State Warriors can avoid a repeat of the fateful 1964-65 season.
