The Detroit Pistons are ready to face the Houston Rockets tonight. The Pistons snapped their historic 28-game losing streak after beating the Toronto Raptors in the last game. Cade Cunningham said after the game that he does not want to return to where they were and hopes to keep winning more games. But the Pistons have a big challenge in front of them tonight. They will go head-to-head against one of the most talented young players in the league, Alperen Sengun.

Pistons head coach Monty Williams had high praise for Sengun ahead of the game and even put him in the ranks of Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid.

Alperen Sengun is having a breakout season for the Houston Rockets. He is leading the Rockets in scoring and rebounds, averaging 21.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists. Sengun has helped the Rockets get into the playoff picture with a 15-15 record. The entire league has noticed an improvement in Sengun’s game, and he is starting to be ranked among the most elite players in the league. Pistons head coach Monty Williams said this about the 21-year-old, “He might be the best post-up guy in the league now. It’s like Jokic, Embiid, and him.”

That is some high praise coming from the former Coach of the Year. Embiid and Jokic are two of the best Centers in the league who have 3 MVP trophies between them. Putting a third-year player in the same ranks as Jokic and Embiid is a huge honor for Sengun. Alperen has been compared with The Joker throughout his career because of their similar build and playing styles.

Is Alperen Sengun the next Nikola Jokic?

Witnessing the rise of Alperen Sengun, the NBA World cannot help but compare him with a young Nikola Jokic. Sengun has a very similar playing style to the 2-time MVP. He is a 6’11 Center with amazing court vision and a high basketball IQ. Despite not being very athletic, Sengun dominates his opponents using his versatile skill set and playmaking ability. He is slowly starting to make a name for himself and be considered one of the most talented young players in the NBA. That is what happened with Nikola Jokic.

Jokic had a slow start to his career, but his career skyrocketed in his 4th season. He made his first all-star team as a 23-year-old and has not looked back since. He is now a 2-time MVP, a Finals MVP, and an NBA Champion. If Sengun’s career pans out anywhere close to Jokic’s, he will become one of the most dominant centers in the league a few years down the line. Alperen Sengun might very well be the modern era’s Nikola Jokic.
