The NBA is no stranger to shocking developments and jaw-dropping team-ups. The one that really took the cake this year was Jrue Holiday’s decision to join the Boston Celtics. This move came as a consequence of the blockbuster three-team trade. The 33 year old point guard was traded by Milwaukee Bucks to Portland Trailblazers in exchange for Damian Lillard. Later, he moved to the Celtics, joining Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Now it seems like the NBA All-Star has caught the attention of someone else. As per sources at ESPN, USA Basketball is “aggressively pursuing Boston Celtics All-Star guard Jrue Holiday to return to Team USA for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris”.

Jrue made his Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He was a part of the winning team that snatched the gold medal for the fourth consecutive time. This time around, the officials are looking to put together the best roster who will be able to retain the title. In this quest, they consider Holiday as their top choice, calling him “the second-most-impactful player, after Kevin Durant.”

Other players have volunteered and expressed a desire to join the team. LeBron James, with the plan to assemble an ‘Avengers’ squad for the Games, has confirmed his desire to play for the team.
Stephen Curry, who has never played for the Olympics before, also indicated the same saying, “ … definitely if all things stay the same I wanna be playing. It’s the one thing I haven’t done.” Three-time Olympic winner, Kevin Durant during his Phoenix Suns media day confidently confirmed his participation in the games saying, “I will play in the Olympics next year,” with no room for doubts.

Team USA’s chances at the 2024 Paris Olympic
The team does not really have a great start to its Olympic campaign. At the 2023 FIBA World Cup in the Philippines this summer, the team struggled and failed to win a medal. But the one thing that shone during the tournament was Holiday’s on-ball defense, playmaking and leadership. This could be one of the main factors for this pursuit to get him into the Olympics team.

Taking into account the Holiday’s previous appearance and the names that are predicted to be a part of the team, it seems like USA has a high chance of securing its gold and maintaining its title as the ‘Dream Team’ in basketball.
