Firing coaches isn’t anything new in the NBA. Last year after a set of playoff debacle, many teams chose to fire their head coach. For instance, the Milwaukee Bucks fired Mike Budenholzer for facing a blowout against the 7th-seeded Maimi Heat despite being at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Another prominent firing was that of Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams after the Denver Nuggets dismantled them. More recently, Houston Rockets star Tari Eason’s mother reminisces on a jab she took of head coaches almost a decade ago!

When one pictures vocal NBA parents, names like Lavar Ball and Tee Morant come to mind, however, 22-year-old forward Tari Eason also has a mother who is known for her antics on social and it turns out it was no different even a decade ago. Recently she took to X (Formerly known as Twitter) to commemorate a tweet she posted 11 years ago. ” Happy Game Day!!!” she wrote on the memory. In the throwback, she wrote, “The NBA is firing coaches left and right. Hey, but the truth is the truth; a good coach can make or break a team. Sorry Avery.”

For many who might not understand the reference, Avery Johnson became the very first coach the Brooklyn Nets Fired back in 2012. That is not all since in the same year, three other coaches were fired, including Mike Brown, Scott Skiles, and Alvin Gentry. While firing coaches is normal, the Houston Rockets aren’t firing theirs anytime soon as, after struggling for almost three years, the Rockets are finally a better team which is in part due to their head coach Ime Udoka. Even GM Rafael Stone thinks so.

Is Ime Udoka the recipe for the Rocket’s recent success?

The inclusion of Ime Udoka has significantly altered the game for the franchise. A notable aspect appreciated by Stone is the new head coach’s receptiveness to innovative concepts. Meaningful discussions between the two regarding enhancements within the team are a regular occurrence.

Stone elaborates, stating, “When something isn’t effective for our team or a specific player, we engage in constructive dialogues exploring diverse ideas to understand the reasons behind it.” This approach could very well be the long-sought recipe for the team’s success—a proactive coach proactively instigating positive transformations.
