Adam Silver Under Pressure After His Employees Confess to Major Blunder in Knicks-Pistons Game

The refs pick the Detroit Pistons’ side after the game. The NY Knicks-Pistons game spiraled into a drama after the refs failed to call a foul with the game on the line. Following the game, Knicks players and their head coach shrugged off the questions related to the controversial play and the Pistons HC Monty Williams exploded during the post-game press conference, trashing the officiating for the last play.

While it seemed like the controversial play might slip away, the referees’ post-game pool report revealed a shocking update. And speaking to the press, refs Crew Chief James Williams admitted that the refs failed to call the loose ball foul on Donte DiVincenzo. Apart from that, the report highlighted that the Pistons can win the appeal, even though it is rare.

During the last possession of the game, the players engaged in a 20-second tussle to get the possession of the ball. The NY Knicks were trailing behind by one point and they badly required a bucket to win the game. The Pistons’ Ausar Thompson stole the ball and headed for the bucket. However, he was tackled down by Knicks’ guard DiVincenzo, and the refs failed to call the reach in foul. Eventually, the home team went on to win the game with Josh Hart’s tough layup.

However, after the pool report, refs concluded that Thompson lost the possession of the ball before his contact with DiVincenzo. Most importantly, the refs admitted that they failed to call loose ball foul. This statement will lead to only one possibility, which is the Pistons’ appeal to the league.

And, the report also stated that the Detroit side could win the appeal, which in itself was a rare case in the history of the league. Leaving the rest in the hand of the NBA commissioner, Adam Silver.

The formal protest gives the NBA franchises the opportunity to appeal to the league regarding the result of the game. The appealing team should pay $10,000 to file a protest and it will be refunded if it wins the appeal, as per ESPN’s Bobby Marks.

The NBA commissioner, Adam Silver or whoever the commissioner at the point, has the authority to make the final call. If the franchise wins the appeal, the previous result of the game wouldn’t be taken into account and the teams will face each other again on a later date.
