Over the last seasons, the NBA world has witnessed rumors about the league’s expansion and Las Vegas being the preferred team. Importantly, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James had publicly expressed his wish to own the Vegas team multiple times in the past. Unfortunately, the superstar’s dream could go crashing down after a new update. Ironically, King James prepares for his team’s trip to Vegas for the In-Season Tournament semi-final, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver dropped a hammer on him.

Apart from being involved in the expansion rumors, Vegas City came into the picture multiple times in the NBA world. The Sphere Arena conducted the NBA Summer League. The inaugural edition of the In-Season Tournament’s semi-finals and championship games are set to be played there. While it seemed obvious for anyone to expect Las Vegas as the next franchise, Adam Silver crushed the dreams.

In the last 21 seasons of the league, LeBron James has emerged as a superstar and a global icon. He went on to become the first active player in NBA history to become a billionaire. There is rarely anything that is left for James to achieve in the league. To top it all, he became the scoring champion of the NBA world.

Despite having all possible qualifications and a sound resume, Silver’s recent decision killed James’ dream of owning a franchise for Las Vegas.

In a recent episode of SiriusXM NBA Radio, Silver responded to the Vagas question, reported Keith Smith. Silver, in his reply, said, “Lots of players, former players, well-known wealthy people out there who’ve expressed interest in having a Las Vegas franchise. What I’ve said to everyone… is that there is no process in place.”

Moreover, Silver didn’t entirely deny a franchise for the Sin City, he stressed that the league isn’t ready yet for the expansion, considering the two factors. One was the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which was settled earlier between the players and management. Silver revealed that it wouldn’t be a problem until 2030. The other factor is the new media deal.

Importantly, he assured that the league will have an expansion once both factors are met to the league’s advantage.

If not Las Vegas, which city will earn a franchise?

During a press conference, James revealed his ambition to own a franchise in Las Vegas. On the other hand, Seattle is one city that lost its franchise in 2008 and its fans crave a comeback. Luckily, Silver, in his recent statement, had some news for the Seattle fans. He said, “I know that the fans in Seattle have wanted us to get back there forever… We’ll certainly be looking at those two markets.” Fans of both cities have to wait until the league figures out the new media deal.
