There was a time in NBA history when the All-Star Weekend was the season’s most anticipated event. It was synonymous with excitement, intensity, and creativity. After all, it was an event where the best players in the league would come together to showcase their skills and talent. Unfortunately, the hype around the weekend has died down over the past few years. It used to be an exciting weekend for NBA fans, but the events are getting progressively, for lack of a better word, boring. The 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend stands as a testimony.

Through it all, the All-Star Game takes the cake for lacking the seriousness and competitiveness that made it great in the first place. They are just not what they used to be, and it’s beginning to look like a chore rather than a great weekend filled with intense activities. For a vet like Draymond Green, it is crushing to see the state of this once highly coveted weekend, and he points the finger at the league’s future generation.

Draymond is disappointed at Anthony Edwards’ blatancy

Draymond especially contests that the All-Star Game has gone down the drain. The 4X NBA All-Star says, “The All-Star Game, absolutely pathetic. It’s ridiculous.” However, he expresses his disappointment at young stars like Anthony Edwards, who is regarded as the future of the league, for not taking over the responsibility to revive the game. Instead, Ant-Man went about casually saying things like, “We don’t care, we don’t want to play, we don’t want to be there.” This, to Draymond, is “disheartening,” as he puts it.

For Dray, hearing what Ant said from other vets, like Steph Curry, or LeBron James, can be tolerable because these stars have already done their time and played in multiple ASGs. However, for someone like Ant to show his disinterest when he was voted to be an All-Star for the first time last year is “outlandish” and “crazy“, Draymond says.

Someone needs to teach the Ant-Man

DrayMagic adds that one of the crucial aspects of an NBA star’s resume is the ASG MVP title. So, he can’t comprehend why Anthony wouldn’t want his name engraved in history next to the greats like Kobe, Bron, Shaq, and Bron, who have all won that title. The 22-year-old star is currently regarded as the face of the league so Dray believes, “As the face of the NBA, you’re kind of in direct partnership with the NBA to continue to move this thing forward.”

He understands if Anthony does not want to take on that responsibility, but at the same time, the talent he brings to the floor inevitably puts him in that position. So, Dray believes that the only antidote to the problem is, “somebody needs to be teaching him that.” He says that somebody needs to teach Ant that “it’s about more than just being good at basketball, like, you actually have to be a great partner to be face of the NBA.” As the face of a whole franchise, Ant-Man just has to do more than the others.
