The time has been unkind to the Philadelphia 76ers for a while now. It seemed to have continued that way as the team lost their season opener away from home. Following the misery, the legend of franchise, Charles Barkley, fired shots at the talisman of the roster, Joel Embiid.
He tagged the reigning MVP as the ‘biggest loser’ as the organization failed to resolve the situation of James Harden. The tough times just got extended for the 76ers as the voices against them gained momentum with time.

In the Inside the NBA show, the 60-year-old let his emotions take over as his former side lost the game. He mocked Embiid for keeping his faith in ‘The Process’, while other stars of the team left for personal benefits. Addressing that issue, Charles mentioned, “The biggest loser in all of this is probably Joel”.
The roster’s other superstar, Harden, seemed to be showing no exception as he wanted to move out of Philadelphia, too. This happened just slightly more than a year since a long-standing Ben Simmons drama in the franchise. Barkley highlighted that as he empathized with the situation of the 29-year-old center.
“He had to go through this Simmons fiasco,”?the legend of the game of basketball stated, pointing it out. He soon talked about how James’ future would go down the same pathway as Ben’s because “He can’t come back”.?The entire scenario could leave Joel alone to hold the fort despite his choice of sticking with the organization throughout.
In a way, the words of the 1993 MVP held a lot of value as they put into focus the ruthless nature of the business. It also showcased another aspect of the modern game.

The dark side of loyalty in the NBA
The 76ers were on the verge of greatness on multiple occasions in the past couple of years. Their decision to build a team around Joel was applaudable. But most of their other decisions backfired as the franchise struggled to keep up with the rest of the league.
Their choice of retaining the 2018 MVP last season fell under that category too. With the Los Angeles Clippers showing interest in signing Harden, the future looked bleak for the Philadelphia side. Amidst all of these, Embiid had to pay the biggest price all the time. In search of stability, he always received chaos.
