“Complete Middle Finger From Dolan”: As Adam Silver Gets Dragged Into Knicks’ $10 Million Lawsuit, Shocking Details Become Public

Larry Tanenbaum, the owner of the Raptors received a letter on 17th August from the chief legal counsel of the Knicks that would set off a long legal battle in motion. The letter claimed that Ikechukwu Azotam, a former employee of the Knicks and recently hired by the Raptors, was accused of giving the Raptors access to sensitive data.

The purportedly disclosed information included scouting data, a 2022-23 season prep book, play frequency files, and additional tactical particulars. In the same letter, the Knicks asserted that they were actively investigating the case and that Ikechukwu could be liable for a $5 million fine for the alleged damages. Inevitably, the Commissioner of the NBA, Adam Silver, was dragged into this mess.

The entire case reveals a personal beef

Analysts opine that the lawsuit finds it’s bearing from a personal dispute between Larry and the Knicks’ governor James Dolan. An Eastern Conference Executive said about the whole situation, “I think this is a complete middle finger from Dolan to Larry Tanenbaum — and I think it’s nothing more than that.” On the flip side, the Raptors had constantly asked Adam Silver to intervene and resolve the conflict.

However, the Knicks were pushing for the court to handle the case rather than Silver as he could only impose a maximum penalty of $10 million, and they aimed to establish that their damages were worth way more. Moreover, the Knicks came out with another counter-argument that Silver was heavily influenced by Larry to which Silver came out and denied the allegations.

The Raptors’ response

The Raptors have denied all allegations and they are expected to respond to the Knicks’ most recent court filing as the case is still ongoing. The outcome of this issue is still up in the air, and attorneys are not optimistic about a settlement anytime soon. At the same time, legal experts question the Knicks’ motive and find the lawsuit quite unusual.

Outside the legal court and in the actual basketball court, the Knicks (10-7) and the Raptors (9-10) are set to play against each other for the first time this season on Friday. Well, if anything, they will settle the matter on the court amidst the ongoing legal battle.
