Recently, the all-time 3pt leader Stephen Curry visited his birth city of Akron, Ohio for the second time in his life. Two of the greatest basketball players of all time were born in this city, making it well-known in the sports world. Curry’s connection with LeBron James goes long before they started meeting in the NBA finals as the arch-rivals. However, for Curry, his latest visit to the city was courtesy of Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, which recently honored him with the Ambassador of Golf Award.

Curry also hosted a golf event for 96 young golfers in collaboration with UNDERRATED Golf. It was a special occasion for Curry to be back in his birthplace and engage with the golf community. During his visit to Akron, Stephen Curry sat down for an exclusive interview with 3News sports anchor, Nick Camino. They discussed various topics, including Curry’s passion for golf. His efforts to support the sport, such as funding men’s and women’s golf programs at Howard University, were also mentioned.

They also discussed Curry’s experiences playing against LeBron and the Cavs in four consecutive finals. The interviewer even asked Curry about the significance of being born in Akron and if it created a special bond, despite it not being his current home.

In response to this, Curry admitted the connection people make between his birthplace and his involvement in past games against the Cavaliers, particularly with LeBron James. He found it meaningful to return to Akron, even though it was only his second visit since 1988.

He stated, “I get to come back here, is only my second time back since 1988, which is crazy. But it is special to even just be at this iconic place, Firestone, where there’s so much history in the game that’s been experienced here, and Tiger winning eight times. The shot he hit in the dark, and all the who’s who, the list of champions that have won here too. So, it is special for sure.”

Being at the iconic Firestone location, with its rich history and notable champions like Tiger Woods, added to the special moments of the experience for Curry.

LeBron James and Stephen Curry connection

Given that both James and Curry were born and raised in Akron, Ohio, they have a special bond. Despite the fact that they are not related by blood, they have an intriguing connection thanks to the city. But that’s not all. There’s another special and interesting connection they share. They were born in the same hospital.

James found this connection meaningful, which motivated him to reach out to Curry and foster a relationship beyond sports.

During the 2008 NCAA Sweet Sixteen, there were rumors that LeBron James would watch Stephen Curry’s Davidson team face Wisconsin. Curry shared that his entire team was excited and talking about LeBron’s presence. He expressed his gratitude for LeBron’s support.

In return, Curry attended one of LeBron’s games against the Charlotte Bobcats. After the game, they had the chance to meet and greet each other too.
